Prototyping & Shop Handbook [INTERNAL]

Prototyping & Shop Handbook [INTERNAL]

How we build and test physical prototypes — machines, safety, and process. This one is written mostly by the people doing the work; below is the skeleton to fill in. Keep entries short and practical, with photos.

Contents (to fill in)

  • Shop & equipment overview — the machines and tools we have (FDM/SLA printers, CNC mill, laser cutter) and the materials on hand.
  • Safety — machine safety, PPE, do's and don'ts. (important — write this first)
  • Machine SOPs — setup, calibration, operation, and maintenance for each machine.
  • Build process — CAD → fabrication → assembly / bonding → finishing.
  • Build logs — how we document each build: settings, materials, metrology vs CAD, photos, lessons.
  • Metrology & QC — measuring parts against the CAD model, tolerances, tools.
  • Reverse engineering — how we tear down, measure, and model best-in-class devices.
  • Materials guide — engineering plastics (POM, PC, Nylon, PETG) and plywood: properties and when to use which.
  • Consumables & ordering — what we stock and how to reorder (see the purchasing rules in Team Onboarding).
